Tic-Tac-Toe

A game most of us probably remember from our childhood. Great for learning the important social skill of taking turns, but it is so much more. With more reflection I remember the period where I understood the basic rules, but not the strategies of the game resulting in generally losing the game. Then comes the time that your understanding equals that of your competitor resulting in the dreaded cycle of never ending cat games (ties). Lilly is currently in the stage where she understands her goal and the rules, but is still working out strategy. Playing with her, trying to encourage her to pay attention to my spaces making sure to “block” me from winning while still thinking about her own goal made me rethink how much critical thinking this game actually teaches.

I recently finished an art project, 26 animal drawings to create my own animal alphabet clip art. We run into this game all over from restaurant place mats to playground equipment. I couldn’t resist creating some Tic-Tac-Toe games sheets of our own using my images. Here they are:

Enjoy!
